5 REASONS WHY TO COME TO LONDON IS EASY
Every day we talk to Spanish Students who are very afraid to come to London. They are scared of high prices, new language and they are doubting they will find a job.
1 out of 10 students at the end decides to go and have new experience living in London. we would like to open your eyes and help you to make right decision, not to be scared and jus tho for it and enjoy.
Here we will talk about all the aspects that seem difficult and unfamiliar to Spanish students in Londnon and hopefully this information will help them to finally understand that everyone survives in London and things are much easier then they seem.
1. Opening your bank account in London
In Internet you will find lots of dodgy companies that sell you the service of opening the bank account or give it as a ¨bonus¨. Well first of all it is against British law. And second, it is so easy to open your bank account in London that you do not need to pay somebody to do it for you. You will be perfectly capable to do it yourself
- Choose your bank
- For example we recommend Barclays
- Go to Barclays web site and go to their branch finder. Type your London Post code there and you will see the nearest bank to your house. Here is the link: http://ask.barclays.co.uk/branchfinder/
- Please go to any cashier and tell that you need to book an appointment for bank account opening. Please be ready to answer the following questions:

- Please go to any cashier and tell that you need to book an appointment for bank account opening. Please be ready to answer the following questions:
Your full name
Your home address
Your mobile phone number
Are you employed? Please answer: YES
They will give you an invitation letter or they may just tell the time and date of your next appointment without the letter. The next step will be to come at the arranged date and time to open the bank account.
For the appointment you will need to bring the following items:
1. your passport and/or
2. your ID
3. the invitation letter (given to you on the first appointment)
4. Any confirmation of your address in the UK
Thats it!
2. Getting your National Insurance Number Appointment
This is also nothing really difficult.
Your National Insurance number is your own personal account number. The number makes sure that the National Insurance contributions and tax you pay are properly recorded on your account. It also acts as a reference number for the whole social security system.
Every National Insurance number is different. It's made up of letters and numbers like this:
QQ 12 34 56 A. (Please note that this National Insurance number is just an example and should not be used as your own number.)
Your National Insurance number never changes even if you go abroad, marry, register as a civil partner, change your name, etc.
Your entitlement to many state benefits depends on your National Insurance contribution record (see the section below 'State benefits that depend on National Insurance contributions').
If you don't have a National Insurance number, you can apply to get one.
For this you need to be in the UK and speak English quite well. You also need to have a permanent address in London in order to give it and book your appointment.
There are also many company that charge for this service. It can be a bit complicated for people who do not speak English well. Terra Londres will do it for FREE for those who byes a course with us. You can have more information about how this service works here: http://www.terralondres.com/london_start.php?l=1
3. Looking for you Accommodation in London.
We would like to tell you that it is important to remember the following if you are searching for a room in a shared house:
- You have to find a room and make sure your landlord is renting it legally. That he is paying taxes. Why? Because if you have a conflict, you will have someone to help you.
- Also in many cases you will be asked to leave a deposit that equals to 1 month rent. In many cases landlords do everything possible so that you never get it back.
- It is risky to share your house with other students that you hardly know. We have experienced a large number of cases when some of the flatmates were partying, or not cleaning the house, or breaking furniture. In this case you will be responsible for all the damage together with them regardless of your involvement. Be careful.
- We think that the best option is to hire an individual room on a shared house with English Landlord registered with British Council. You will get a guarantee of a clean room, internet, no added costs like water or electricity and youWONT PAY A DEPOSIT. You will practice English with your landlords as well. You will have all your freedom to come home whenever you like, cook what you like etc.
IF you want we can give you such an option. Just write to us at accommodation@terralondres.com
4. Getting a Job in London.
This is one of the most hottest topic for Spanish students due to a crisis and lack of work in their country. MAny young people come to London to find a job. And many purchase the services of companies that sell them job interviews and 100% guarantee that they will get a job.
Well, lets look at it and try to analyse this with logic.
- Just think, if you pay money in advance, lets say 80£ to someone to give you a job what do you think this person will be interested in? You have paid him and he has to give it to you. He won't be interested in how good or well paid is your job. HE won't think about if you will enjoy and practice your English there. The only thing he wants is to give you WHATEVER and say later: "Look, you have paid me and I have given to you a JOB". Isn't it obvious that he won't give you anything worth spending your tie and money for?
- Then, what kind of employer will hire a person without even seeing and talking to him? DO you really think it is possible that a restaurant manager will hire you from Spain when he has thousands of people already there in London looking for a job? Well, of course not!!!
- Then we are sure you should not be afraid of a process of job search. You will enjoy it. There are so many opportunities in London. It is important to know where to find them but it is really naive to hope that you can bye yourself a job.
We will give all the necessary contacts where you can send your CV. And if you do it you will find job within 1-2 weeks. And it will be YOU who chose it, not someone else. And we will assist you for FREE.
5. There much more things that scare people and influence their decision to come or not to come.
In general we know from our students that none has regretted their experience in London even if they had troubles or difficulties. This is a part of adventure and if you take it easy and look always on the positive side of things we promise you, you will learn and enjoy a lot.
